What is BMI?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple numerical measure of a person's weight relative to their height. It is calculated by dividing your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in metres (kg/m²). While BMI is a useful screening tool, it does not directly measure body fat and should not be used as a sole diagnostic tool. Athletes, for example, may have a high BMI due to muscle mass rather than excess fat.
BMI Formula
Metric: BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)²
Imperial: BMI = (weight (lbs) × 703) ÷ height (inches)²
